Courtney & Tom tied the knot in the gardens of Tom’s family beach cottage overlooking the Indian Ocean in Port Edward. When I asked them what was important to them and what they hoped my photos would capture they simply said ‘their community’. Their friends and family were the most significant part of the day and saying their vows surrounded by these people were what mattered. I was free to sit back and people watch. The decor was simple, some bunting, origami birds and shweshwe picnic blankets with a few pillows for their picnic style wedding. For the creative shoot we went up the road to the smallest desert in the world…The Red Desert. When Courts and Tom told me that that is where they would like go for their creative shoot I knew we were a match made in heaven. The colours chosen were complimented perfectly by the red sand, and the light just added to the magical experience. The reception had a chilled vibe as friends and family had turns to perform in an open mic style affair. This laid back wedding that didn’t conform to the normal traditions was just perfect for these two souls and they couldn’t have looked more in love or more perfect for one another.
